ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Lady Flames tennis team continued its Spring Break success with a 6-1 win over Hampton University at Sanlando Park. Lee improved to 6-2 overall, while the Pirates dropped to 1-8.
Carley Sickinger and Lisa Kirr took down Yulia Kapitanova and Viktoria Ljungman 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Asia Grzegrzolka and Micaela Belen Maiz earned the team doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Kiah Turner and Cherise Slocombe.
Hampton avoided the doubles sweep when Haley Mullins and Julia D'Auvergne held off Sierra Donaldson and Laura Beth Hardesty for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Grzegrzolka posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Slocombe to push the Lee lead to 2-0. Kirr won her No. 3 singles match with Mullins 6-2 and 6-0. Donaldson clinched the team victory with matching 6-1 set scores over Caira Walker in the sixth position.
Belen Maiz was pushed by Ljungman at No. 4 singles, but was able to win 7-5, 7-5. Trammell was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over D'Auvergne to give the Lady Flames a 6-0 lead.
Kapitanova thwarted Lee's shutout attempt with a three-set win over Sickinger at the top position.
The Lady Flames complete their Spring Break competition on Thursday against with the University of Findlay. The non-conference battle is set for a noon start at the Fort Gatlin Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
