Lady Flames Split Doubleheader with Trojans

The Lee softball team split a doubleheader with Tevecca Nazarene on a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon from Butler Field.

The Lady Flames took game one, 8-4 but couldn't overcome a fast start from the Trojans in dropping game two, 14-8. The split moves Lee to 19-25 while Trevecca sits at 24-13

"We came out fighting in game one and played well. We had trouble replicating it in game two," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "We didn't have the same focus to start the second game and we dug too big of a hole. We did shut them out in the last four innings and scored eight runs but we couldn't overcome what happened in the second."

The Lady Flames will travel down to Pensacola to test the number one team in the nation, West Florida in a Gulf South Conference three-game set. The series opens on Friday at 5 p.m.

GAME 1 – LEE 8, TNU 4
Abby McKinney launched a three-run and Taylor De Adder delivered a three-run triple to help the Lady Flames claim an 8-4 game one victory over Trevecca.

De Adder started the scoring with bases-loaded triple to right field in the third inning. McKinney plated a run with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0.

Trevecca got on the board in the fifth with a two-run single off the bat of Lenna Robinson but McKinney answered right back as she drilled her team-leading 10th home run of the season to straightaway center with two on to open things up at 7-2.
Bailey Alexander clubbed a two-run blast for the Trojans in the sixth but that was as close as the Nashville club would get off Lee starter Shonna Penney.

The sophomore righty for the Lady Flames won her third straight decision to improve to 9-13 on the season as she allowed four runs on 10 hits while going the complete seven innings.

Cali Norrod (1-2) suffered the loss for Trevecca, allowing seven runs, five earned over five innings.

GAME 2 – LEE 8, TNU 14
A 12-run second inning explosion for the Trojans was too much for the Lady Flames to overcome as they lost, 14-8 in Wednesday's nightcap.

The Trojans delivered 12 runs on nine hits and benefitted from two Lee errors. Trevecca singled the Lady Flames to death. Matti Byrd led the way with two singles and a double and drove in two. MaKray Odom had the other extra base hit with a two-run double in the second.

De Adder (7-9) suffered the brunt of the Trevecca rally as she gave up eight runs on five hits in one-plus innings. Stevie Baird came on in relief and gave up six runs on nine hits but held the visitors scoreless over the final four innings.

Raygn Hall (10-3) was the benefactor of the run support as she earned the win in the circle. Hall allowed eight runs on 11 hits over six innings. She walked five and struck out four.

The Lady Flames didn't go quietly has they scored eight runs after falling behind 13-0. Hatcher, Kiley Longmire and Claudia Jones smashed doubles. De Adder ended a five-run second for the Lady Flames with a two-run single.

The Lee offense tallied 12 hits of its own and drew six walks.
