No. 13 West Alabama Upends Lady Flames 7-0

The Lee University women's tennis team dropped its second-straight Gulf South Conference contest against a ranked opponent with a 7-0 setback to No. 13 West Alabama Wednesday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames (14-5, 5-4 GSC) lost 4-3 at No. 49 Mississippi College this past Saturday.

West Alabama (11-4, 6-0 GSC) posted wins in two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead. Daryna Hukasian and Haina Franco were 6-3 winners at No. 3 doubles over Lauren Trammell and Sierra Donaldson.

Asia Grzegrzolka and Micaela Belen Maiz evened the doubles score with a 6-3 win over the No. 23-ranked team of Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone at No. 1 doubles.

UWA secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win by Sarah Manseri and Liliana Araucz against Carley Sickinger and Lisa Kirr in the second position.

The top three positions of singles competition required three sets to determine a winner. At No. 3 singles, Franco won the first and third sets 6-2 and 6-3, respectively, while Kirr won the second set 6-2. Manseri, ranked No. 51, won the opening set with Sickinger 7-5. Sickinger responded with a 7-5 advantage of her own in the second set, but Manseri won the final set 6-2 to push UWA's lead to 3-0.

Grzegrzolka beat Hukasian 6-4 in their first set. Hukasian fought back to win the final two sets 6-4 and 6-3 to clinch the team victory.

Salom won at the fourth position against Belen Maiz 6-4, 6-2. Tommassone was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at the fifth spot and Araucz completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Donaldson.

The Lady Flames finish the regular season with two road matches this weekend. Lee travels to Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday at 3 p.m. EDT before traveling to Montevallo on Sunday.
