The Lee volleyball team opened the 2019 campaign in style with a dominating 3-0 victory over visiting Kentucky State in Walker Arena on Saturday morning.
Senior southpaw Quinne Daoust led the way with 10 kills and hit .348 for the match. She also chipped in nine digs on the defensive side. Freshman Abby Stroh added seven slams and used a powerful serve to collect five aces. All totaled Lee had 10 aces.
Preseason All-GSC selection senior Hanna Matthews set the offense in motion with 26 assists while senior Micaela McMichen tallied 13 digs as the starting libero.
The Lady Flames rolled to a 25-13 first set victory thanks to a sizzling .348 team hitting percentage (nine kills, 1 error). In set two the Thorobreds bounced back and held a 16-15 advantage before freshman Makenzie Pearson was called on to serve and helped jump start a 10-1 run to end the set, 25-17.
In set three it was all Lee as they closed it out forcing Kentucky State to a -.043 hitting percentage. The Lady Flames hit .273 to close out the sweep.
Kentucky State, the 2018 SIAC Champions, was led by Robin Poole with six kills while Oyucky Benitez pitched in nine digs.
Kentucky State (0-1) will finish off the day with Erskine College at 1 p.m. while the Lady Flames (1-0) will get a breather before hosting the Flying Fleet at 3 p.m.
