"It was a good win for our team tonight. We played well on both ends for a big portion of the game. We also made a couple of nice runs to extend leads," said head coach Marty Rowe. The Lady Flames got out of the gate fast and quickly jumped out to an 18-3 lead at the end of the first period. The margin grew to 38-17 by halftime.
Lee went back on the attack in the third quarter and out-scored the Lady Choctaws 32-20 in building a 70-37 margin. From that point on Coach Rowe began emptying his bench and before the night was over, 14 players saw action and 10 scored.
Shanell Kitchens paced the Lady Choctaws scoring with 18 points. Zariah Matthews followed with 12 and Mikeba Jones pitched in with 11. The Lee defense forced 20 Mississippi College turnovers while committing just 14. The visitors were able to shoot 33% from the field, 25%
from 3-point range but did convert 18-of-24 free throws.
The Lady Flames expect a much stiffer test from rival Delta State University on Saturday at 2 p.m. The visiting Lady Statesmen were upset by Alabama Huntsville on Thursday evening. "We cannot be satisfied and have to continue to strive for improvement every game," said Coach Rowe. "Right now depth is playing an important role in our team's success. We have a good combination of experienced and younger players."
