Lady Flames Claim GSC Regular Season Title in 111-45 Route of Shorter

Rome, Ga. – It was complete domination from start to finish as the No. 8 Lee Lady Flames rolled to a 111-45 victory over Shorter on Thursday evening.

The win secured at least a share of the regular season Gulf South Conference Championship for the Lady Flames. The 111 points was just five points shy of tying the highest single game total of 116 set back on Jan. 22, 2009 against Reinhardt. The 66-point margin of victory was eight shy of the program record.

The issue was settled shortly after the opening tip as the Lady Flames rolled to their highest scoring quarter in history with 41 points after the first 10 minutes. Lee held a 69-20 lead at the half and 87-34 advantage after three quarters.

"Our focus level and attention to details were really good start to finish," said Lee head coach Marty Rowe. "We hadn't played in a week so it was really good to play again."

Haley Schubert led the Lady Flames with 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field and 3 of 4 from the 3-point line. The sophomore point guard swiped six steals, grabbed five boards and dished off five assists. Taylor Boggess followed with 15 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.

Freshman Macy Woodworth had her best game of her young career with 14 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field in just eight minutes of work. Nicky Widenski was a perfect 5 of 5 from the field with 12 points and seven assists. Camryn Grant made it five players in double-figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Abby Bertram tallied eight points to go along with six assists and four rebounds.

As a team the Lady Flames shot a sizzling 66.2 percent (47 of 71) from the field and 45.8 percent (11 of 24) from beyond the arc.

The Hawks played with just six players and were led by Jasmine Gaines who poured in a game-high 20 points. Tatum Ragsdale added 13 and five rebounds.

Lee dominated every statistical category. The Lady Flames held a 37-13 advantage on the glass and forced Shorter into 23 turnovers, tallied 14 steals while committing just 10 floor mistakes.

The Lady Flames improve to 25-2 on the year and are 17-2 in the GSC. The struggling Hawks lose their 12th straight contest to fall to 1-24 and 1-18 in league play.

The Lady Flames will wrap up the regular season with a visit to Alabama Huntsville on Saturday at 3 p.m. With a win Lee would earn the outright regular season title as it looks to repeat as GSC Tournament Champions.

"We're looking forward to the challenge we'll face at UAH on Saturday, that game will certainly help prepare us for the postseason," concluded Rowe.
