HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite 18 points from Ryan Montgomery and Quay Kennedy the Lee men's basketball team struggled to find its rhythm on Saturday evening, falling to the No. 20 Alabama Huntsville Chargers, 81-67 to close out the regular season.
After a back and forth first 10 minutes of the game the Chargers closed the half on a 24-17 run to take a 36-28 lead into the intermission. The second half was more of the same as Alabama Huntsville led the rest of the way to salvage a split with the Flames in the season series.
Montgomery connected on 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and had six rebounds. Kennedy also found some rhythm from outside hitting 4 of 9 triples. As a team the Flames hit 38.5 percent from deep and 39.7 percent from the field.
Jason Landman continued his productive play off the bench and was the only other player in double-figures with 13 points before fouling out. Beyuan Hendricks added eight points and four rebounds.
Malik Cook-Stroupe led the Chargers with 18 points. JJ Kaplan posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Sam Orf added 13 and seven boards while Seth Swalve dropped 11 points.
The Chargers held a 39-30 edge on the glass and committed just nine turnovers. The Flames were guilty of 13 floor mistakes.
The Flames fall to 21-6 on the year and 16-4 in the GSC. The win moves UAH to 23-5 and 15-5 in league play.
Lee will enter the GSC Tournament on Tuesday as the No. 2 seed, marking it's highest seeding since officially joining the NCAA in the 2015-16 season. The Flames will host the seventh-seeded Auburn Montgomery Warhawks. AUM handed Lee two of its four conference losses this season. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. in Walker Arena.
