Softball Splits with CBU Thanks to Game 2 Comeback

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lee softball team battled back from a game one setback to take game two and split Saturday's Gulf South Conference doubleheader at Christian Brothers. The series finale is schedule for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The split moves the Lady Flames to 11-6 and 2-3 in the GSC. The Lady Bucs are now 9-9 and 3-5 in league play.

GAME 1 – LEE 1 CBU 2
An untimely error proved to be the difference as the Lady Flames dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to the Bucs in game one.

A dropped flyball allowed the go-ahead run to score in the bottom of the sixth and spoiled another impressive start for junior Lulu Vasquez (5-3). The righty allowed just five hits and one earned run over six innings. She struck out five and walked a pair.

McKenna Rose (6-2) dazzled in the circle for the Lady Bucs as she went the distance allowing four hits and one run. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

The lone run game on a solo home run by Lee's Brooklynn Frazier in the second inning. The senior now has four home runs on the season.

Bree Brady singled and doubled to lead CBU. Brady drove in the first run of the game in the first inning scoring Ashley Dyer who led the game off with walk.

GAME 2 – LEE 3 CBU 2
Shonna Penney delivered a complete game performance and the Lee offense rallied late to give the Lady Flames a DH split with a 3-2 win in Saturday's night cap.

Abby McKinney delivered the go-ahead run in the top seventh with a clutch two-out single up the middle to score Kayla Louie. The speedy shortstop lead off the inning with an infield single and stole second. After a back to back strikeouts McKinney delivered the big hit.

Penney made the run stick by retiring the Lady Bucs in order in the home half of the seventh to notch her fifth win of the season.

Mackenzie Puckett started and allowed two runs in 5.2 innings of work. She punched out four and gave up six hits and a pair of walks. Game one winner Rose came on in the sixth and was tagged with the loss giving up one run over 1.1.

Zoe Miller doubled in two runs for the Lady Flames in the sixth inning to tie things up at 2. Brady got CBU on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. McGill made it 2-0 Lady Bucs in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single to right center.
