DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A spring break trip to the beach was not kind to the Lee softball team as they dropped both games of a doubleheader to Embry-Riddle on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles claimed game one 6-0 behind a dominating pitching performance from Jackson (8-2). She went all seven innings allowing just two hits while striking out nine.
The Lady Flames countered with Shonna Penney (6-2) as she labored through four innings giving up 10 singles and six runs. Taylor De Adder pitched the final two frames and did not give up a run.
Mead led the Eagles with three hits while Drayton and Johnson added two one-base knocks each. Hop drove in two runs on a single in third and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Lily Hatcher provided the only offense for the Lady Flames with two singles.
GAME 2
Embry-Riddle picked up right where it left off in game one in the nightcap as it scored four runs in the first on its way to a 7-4 win over the Lady Flames.
The Eagles used three straight run-scoring singles and a throwing error to jump ahead 4-0. The Lady Flames would score their first run on the series on a Taylor De Adder single in the third.
The home team came right back to score two more in the third inning on a Johnson single and yet another throwing miscue for the Lady Flames. Johnson would add an RBI infield single in the fifth frame to make it 7-1.
The Lady Flames struck for three runs in the seventh but the rally would fall short. De Adder would finish with three RBI as she drove in two on a single to center. Bailey Church followed with a single to center to score De Adder.
Lulu Vasquez (6-6) suffered the defeat. She allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits while recording just one strikeout. Gracie Leslie cleaned up the final three innings, giving up one run on three hits.
Collins (5-3) pitched the Eagles to victory as she struck out nine over the complete game allowing four runs on nine hits.
"We were not focused to play today and it hurt us," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "We did not compete at a high level and a good team took advantage of the opportunity we gave them."
The Lady Flames fall to 13-10 while Embry-Riddle improves to 16-6. Lee will return home to take on GSC rival West Florida in a three-game series beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
