Noble Meets Automatic Qualifier, Sets Lee Record In Indoor Opener

Titus Lagat was first in the 800 and fourth in the mile at the UAB Vulcan Invite.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Christian Noble met an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark and set a Lee record as the Lee University men's track & field team opened its 2020-2021 indoor season at the UAB Vulcan Invite. The meet was held at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Noble won the mile run by 11 seconds with a time of 4:00.60. His performance was the fourth-best all-time in DII. He bested the automatic standard of 4:02.62 and improved his own Lee record from 4:13.21 set four years ago.

Wynand Du Toit claimed a time of 48.27 in the 400-meter dash to meet the provisional qualifying time of 48.42. Siphosethu Boya finished fifth (49.02), Jeremiah McCain was seventh (49.57) and Caleb Campbell placed 11th (50.12).

Daniel Surman tied his own school record in the pole vault. He tied for fourth with a vault of 4.60 meters.

In the 200-meter dash, Boya stopped the clock at 22.04 seconds to finish sixth. Campbell was ninth (22.24) and McCain was 11th (22.59).

Titus Lagat finished fourth in the mile (4:14.70) with Casey Guthery in eighth with a time of 4:24.89. Lagat won the 800-meter run by over a second (1:54.88). Guthery was fifth at 2:00.14.

Caleb Eagleson led six Flames into the top 13 of the 3000-meter run. Eagleson was second overall with a time of 8:28.92. Thomas Kelton (8:35.78) and Dawson Reed (8:36.96) were fifth and sixth, respectively. Silas Eckenroad crossed the line in ninth (8:42.99). Adan Rodriguez finished 11th (8:44.08) and Ezekiel Harless was 13th (8:48.08).

In the 60-meter hurdles, McCain posted a time of 8.69 seconds for ninth. Cameron Stine placed 10th (8.71) and Stacen Cunningham was 13th (8.92). Stine added an eighth-place performance in the high jump after clearing 1.95 meters.

Matthew Black secured a pair of 14th-place finishes in the throwing events. He recorded a distance of 11.43 meters in the shot put and 11.24 meters in the weight throw.

The Flames are scheduled to compete at the Samford Invitational on January 22-23 in the Birmingham Crossplex.
