3-Pointers Sealed the Deal for Falcons Sweep of Lady Flames

Host University of Montevallo women set a new school record by knocking down 15 3-pointers in an 82-75 victory over the Lee women on Sunday afternoon. It was guard Marisa Snodgrass who put on the outstanding shooting display for the Lady Falcons. She hit 6-of-8 triples and finished the contest with 29 points.  

Overall, Montevallo shot a blistering 57% (15-of-27) treys and also helped seal the victory by converting 23-of-31 free-throw attempts. The Lady Flames were awarded just 13 charity tosses and made 11. 

"Montevallo is just a better team than we are right now," said a disappointed Lee coach Marty Rowe after his Lady Flames dropped their third straight contest and stand at 6-5. Montevallo improved to 7-3 and moved into command of second place in the GSC standings. 

"We have got a lot of things as a coaching staff to rectify before Friday," Rowe added. The Lady Flames will welcome Shorter University to Walker Arena on Friday and Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. tips. 

Lee's only lead came during the second quarter by a single point. The Lady Falcons took control and were on top 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and increased the margin to 38-26 at the end of the halftime break.  

Montevallo went on an 11-2 run early in the third quarter and forced Lee to play catch-up the rest of the way. The Lady Eagles' margin reached 17 points in the period and led 59-49 when the third frame ended. The final period saw the Lady Flames fight back and cut the lead to five points on a couple of occasions.  

Morgan Carbaugh (nine points) came off the bench and hit three 3-pointers. Hannah Garrett tallied 17 points and a pair of triples. She produced a double-double with 10 rebounds. Addison Smith also came off the bench and canned two 3-pointers. She finished with 13 points, a career high. Halle Hughes totaled eight points.
 
Lee playmaker and leading scorer Haley Schubert left the game with some four minutes remaining after committing her fifth personal foul. Schubert finished with 20 points and four rebounds. The Lady Flames out-rebounded the Lady Falcons 39-37. Julia Duncan and Cam Grant also pulled down six rebounds apiece. The Lady Flames shot 40% (26-of-64) from the floor and made 35% (12-of-34) from long range. 

Savannah Lee poured in 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the winners. Kyla Sain nailed three treys and recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. For the game, the Lady Falcons shot better from 3-point range, making just 37% of their shots from the field. Montevallo had 18 turnovers compared to 19 floor mistakes for the Lady Flames.
