Men's Tennis Completes Successful Weekend At Enchanted Valley Showdown

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lee University men's tennis team traveled to the North Georgia mountains to participate in the Enchanted Valley Showdown this past weekend. The event was hosted by Young Harris College at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.

"We got what we came for, which was match experience for everyone.," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "We were able to try out some different combinations in doubles and saw some good things. Both teams finished the tournament well and we will go back to work and prepare for our last tournament in two weeks."

The Flames were 6-3 in doubles competition and combined for a 9-9 record in singles action. Two of the doubles teams exited the weekend with 2-1 records. Bruno Medeiros and Nico Ramirez lost their opening match 6-4 before running off victories in their final two matches. They beat Montevallo's Gavin Salton and Sergi Martinez 6-3 followed by another 6-3 win against Rodrigo Mendoza and Chimo Minguez Ribera of Young Harris.

Jesus Garcia Gil and Diego Garcia Gil teamed up to beat Jules Dugue and Arka Ganguly of Montevallo by a 6-2 margin. Following a 6-2 loss to Philippe Zehander and Sinclair of Montevallo, the duo edged Pieke Bouman and Janis Auslands of Young Harris 6-4.

Denis Muratovic and Drew Johnston were 1-1 with a 6-4 win over Ziebart and Jonathan de Jesus and a 6-2 loss to Eric DelValle and Romeo Luque of Young Harris. Nicolo Marchetti and Jordi Dasi were 7-5 winners in their lone match of the weekend.

Three Flames went 2-0 in singles competition. Jesus Garcia Gil recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win over Carson-Newman's Marc Janse and added a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Montevallo's Dylan Valentine. Dasi recorded straight-set wins against Montevallo's Martinez and Young Harris' Caleb McCurry. Marchetti played a couple matches against Young Harris. He defeated Ruben Gonzalez 6-2, 6-2; and shut out Ethan Carter 6-0, 6-0.

Ramirez dropped his first match 6-4, 7-6 (6) to Marnix Van Dalen of Carson-Newman. He finished 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sinclair of Montevallo. Muratovic also reported a 1-1 record. He beat Lars Hordijk of Carson-Newman 6-4 and 6-2, but was outlasted 6-4, 6-4 by Montevallo's Alderliesten.

Diego Garcia Gil lost his first two matches before finishing the weekend with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Herman Ronnberg of Young Harris. Medeiros was 0-2 and Johnston finished 0-3.

The Flames will travel to the Eagle Invitational the weekend of October 22-23. The two-day competition will be held at Tyson Park in Knoxville, Tenn.
