Flames Settle for 0-0 Double OT Draw Against Falcons

For the third time in the past four games against the Falcons, the Flames recorded another double overtime tie against fellow conference opponent the University of Montevallo. Lee has now played five overtime matches this season and are 2-2-1 when going into extra time.

As seen by their all-time history, and evident in the game tonight, the Falcons and Flames are very balanced opponents. Both teams played a physical back-and-forth match, and despite many close chances for the Flames, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the 110 minutes of play.

The two clubs drew even in the first half when it came to possession and shots. Each team had a few opportunities to put a point on the board, as Montevallo had five shots and Lee tallied three.

The second half and overtime periods were titled in favor of the Flames, as the Lee offense tallied 16 shots after halftime while Montevallo only had three. But despite controlling possession, the Flames were still not able to capitalize on their chances as the Falcons defense swarmed the ball at every opportunity.

The conference battle was feisty as each team grabbed a pair of yellow cards. The Flames were whistled for 18 fouls while the Falcons had 11.

Both goalkeepers protected their nets well and each played the full 110 minutes. Lee Keeper Sam Keener tallied five saves in the first half alone, and seven overall, while Salvador Plaza earned six saves for the Falcons.

Lee's fifth year midfielder Jared McWhorter led the team in shots with six, and Montevallo's fifth year Serbian forward Nemanja Acimovic led his team with 3.

The Flames now sit at 8-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the GSC. The Falcons move to 10-2-2 and 6-2-1.

Up next for the Flames is a Halloween trip to Alabama. Lee will play the University of West Alabama on October 29, and face off against Alabama Huntsville on October 31. The Flames will return home for their last regular season game on November 4 against Shorter University.
