Hughes, Schubert Lead Lady Flames to 88-46 Win

Led by four players in double-figure scoring, the 12th-ranked Lee University women's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the year with an 88-46 victory over visiting Brescia University inside Walker Arena on Thursday evening

Graduate student Halle Hughes and senior Haley Schubert paced the Lee scoring with 15 points apiece. Schubert filled up her side of the box score by also posting a double-double (10 assists). She also had six steals and six rebounds. Hughes added a team-leading eight boards and dished off five assists.

Hannah Garrett and freshman Anna Muhonen tallied 13 points apiece. Muhonen also raked down five rebounds as the Lady Flames outrebounded the Bearcats 46-28. Freshman Haylee Johnson added nine points to the winning margin and Addison Smith canned a pair of triples in finishing with eight markers.
Overall, the Lady Flames made 34-of-73 shots from the field (47%) and canned 8-of-27 3-pointers (30%). They made 12-18 free throws (67%). A stat that pleased the Lee coaching staff was the assist to turnover ratio. Lee dished off 23 assists to only nine turnovers.

The visiting Brescia squad was led by Jacqueline Jackson who made 5-of-6 free throws and finished with 15 points. Aija Estes also converted 5-of-6 freebies in finishing with nine points. Overall, the Bearcats made 17-of-19 charity attempts but converted just 29% shots from the field and 21% from behind the arc.

"Just like on Tuesday, Brescia was able to expose some things that we really need to address this weekend in practice," said Lee Coach Marty Rowe.  "Overall, there were a lot of positives to be taken out of this game and we look forward to getting back to work on Friday."

The Lady Flames will travel to Nashville on Monday and will face an old rival in Trevecca Nazarene University. The contest is slated for a 6:30 start.
