Volleyball Falls to West Georgia in Three Sets

On a night when the Lee volleyball team fell behind early in the first two sets but managed to battle back before the visiting West Georgia club prevented the comeback efforts and defeated the host Lady Flames in three sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-17.

"Tonight was a really hard loss for our team. Our execution and effort were not there as a whole, nor was our focus. It was unusual that our fans also never really got into the match, and I thought that might have hurt us during the comebacks," said Coach Callie Murphy after her Lady Flames slipped to 6-17 overall and 4-8 in Gulf South Conference play. The visiting Wolves improved to 12-14, 6-7.

"We have a few matches left in the season and it's not time to walk away yet. We will be back in the gym and ready to work hard tomorrow to get prepared for Montevallo and Shorter," Coach Murphy added.

The Lady Flames will host University of Montevallo in the annual Volley for the Cure match on Friday evening, beginning at 6 p.m. After a short break, Lee will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. and close out the home portion of their schedule when it faces rival Shorter University as part of the Senior Day celebration.

Lee only hit .154 in the loss to the Wolves. Emma Flowers had 15 kills. Abby Stroh followed with 12 and Abby Whittinghill had six. Reagan Bratton delivered 32 assists. Kamryn Halpin went to the deck for 21 digs and Bratton had nine. Scottie Cooke had five blocks and Whittinghill four.

The balanced West Georgia attack was led by Emilee Harris with 10, followed by Kaylyn Buchannan with seven and Autumn Mayes six. The Wolves had an attack percentage of .232 and Mayes delivered 28 assists. The visitors also had nine key aces while Lee had eight service errors. Sydney Blackman had 19 digs in the win and Buchannan delivered four blocks.
