Page Drops 19 as Flames Dismantle Blazers, 87-64

The Lee men's basketball team fired out to a 23-5 lead and never looked back in putting together an 87-64 dismantling of Valdosta State on Monday evening.

The Flames connected on 13 3-pointers and hit 52 percent from the field, led by 19 points off the bench from sophomore Jalen Page.

"We just wanted to come out fast and play a full forty minutes," said Page after the big victory over the Blazers. "We enjoy every moment with each and we just have to go out and enjoy every minute of it. We just came to together and knew something needed to be changed after Saturday's loss. Tonight, was a different type of energy, a positive energy. I think that was infectious for everybody."

Five players scored in double-figures for the Flames. Freshman PJay Smith continues to settle in to the college game and came off the bench and did alittle bit of everything with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

"PJay is so active defensively and he did a great job of filling gaps and being active with his hands," said head coach Bubba Smith. "Our guys that come off the bench just play with such a sense of urgency it's a real big spark to our team. It was nice to see the ball go in the hoop tonight, it certainly allows you to create some distance when you're hitting shots but I thought the key tonight was a defensive effort and intensity from start to finish. When we play defense like this we are a tough team to beat."

Mahki McGuire added 12 points, Michael McGuirk posted 11 and five rebounds, and Jayce Willingham tallied 10. Jason Landman connected on three triples to give him nine points. Beyuan Hendricks set the offense in motion with a season-high nine assists.

The Flames dominated the glass holding a 39-23 advantage over the Blazers. Lee shared the basketball with 21 assists to just 11 turnovers. The Blazers registered just seven assists and were guilty of 14 floor mistakes.

Ricky Brown came off the bench and caught fire from the beyond the arc, cashing in five triples, to lead the Blazers with 15 points. Jacolbey Owens was the only other player in double-figures with 12 points.

After building a 43-21 lead at halftime, Lee never allowed the Blazers within 20 points the entire second half. The Flames extended the margin all the way up to 39 points at 70-31 on a jumper by Page with 9:16 remaining.

The Flames improve to 6-4 and 2-2 in the GSC while Valdosta State falls to an even 5-5 and 1-2 in league play. The 23-point win is the largest in the all-time series, spanning 15 meetings.

Lee will wrap up its four-game homestand on Saturday against rival Alabama Huntsville at 2 p.m. before breaking for Christmas. The Chargers outlasted West Georgia, 62-59 on Monday and are 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the GSC.
