CARROLLTON, Georgia – Six Lee women basketball players scored in double figures in leading the Lady Flames to an 85-75 victory over West Georgia at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The impressive win improved the Lee record to 10-5 while the Wolves dropped to 5-11.
"This was a growth weekend for our team. We were able to put together two solid road games for the first time this season," said a pleased Lee head coach Marty Rowe. "We still have a lot of areas to improve on but being able to withstand and then respond in a positive way was great to see." Rowe pointed out that it was great having six players in double figures and he added it was outstanding to see Maddie Long stepping up late with a big 3. "It was a great team win."
Haley Schubert and Julia Duncan led the double-digit scoring with 19 points apiece. Halle Hughes, Hannah Garrett, Morgan Carbaugh and Camryn Grant each scored 11 points. Hughes led the team with eight rebounds and she also had four assists. Carbaugh grabbed six boards while Garrett and Grant garnered four apiece. Schubert dished off six assists and came away with four steals.
The Lady Flames led 24-20 at the end of the first quarter and 42-33 at the half. The Wolves came storming back and outscored Lee 22-12 in the third frame to grab a 55-54 lead. The Lady Flames responded by putting 31 points on the board in the final period to claim the victory.
It was an outstanding shooting afternoon for the Lady Flames. They shot 54% (32-of-59) and made 13-of-27 3-pointers (48%). They were awarded 10 free throws and made eight. Lee out-rebounded West Georgia 37-28 and took care of the basketball with 19 assists to only 11 turnovers.
West Georgia was paced by Siera Carter with 17 points and seven rebounds. Tahya Campbell pitched in with 15 points and Nijeria Jordan rounded out the double-digit scoring with 13. The Wolves also had a solid night shooting, making 28-of-64 shots from the field (44%). They also hit 13-of-29 treys (45%) and made 6-of-8 charity attempts.
Montevallo won a pair of games over the weekend and continues to hold a one-game lead over the Lady Flames in the GSC East standings. Lee will host Montevallo Friday and Saturday as they seek revenge for a couple of losses to the Falcons earlier in the season.
