Lady Flames Clipped In Overtime By McKendree


Brittney White tallied a tying goal with 17 seconds remaining, but McKendree University ran off with an overtime goal to hand the Lee University women's lacrosse team an 11-10 loss Saturday afternoon at Cleveland High School's Raider Field.

The Bearcats (1-0) held a 6-3 advantage at the halftime break. Lee (0-2) scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to take a 9-7 lead with just over 14 minutes remaining in the game. McKendree responded with three goals over the next 10 minutes to regain the lead.

White led the Lady Flames with four goals. Dariana Blanton added three goals and an assist, while Shayna Ryan, Giselle Gonzalez and Kelsey McGowan added one goal each. Gonzalez also recorded an assist in the loss.

McKendree received five goals from Rylee Skachenko. Sydney Tiemann, Jess Morey and Sarah Hardin scored twice each. Hardin netted the game-winner with 1:50 left in the first overtime period. Kathryn Albrecht was credited with four assists and Tiemann had one.

Clara Andrews turned aside 14 shots to earn the win in goal. Kaleigh Bernard posted eight saves and was charged with the loss.

The Lady Flames have postponed Tuesday's matchup with Lincoln Memorial University due to forecasted rain. Their next game is scheduled for February 20 at The University of Virginia's College at Wise. The non-conference battle is set for a 2 p.m. start.
