Eagles Edge Lady Flames, 4-3

The Lee women's tennis dropped a tightly contested matchup against Carson-Newman on a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.

Matina Ujdur and Lisa Kirr opened the contest with a win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. The Eagles would rally to take the next two however to earn the crucial doubles point. Hannah Price and Natasha Forrest clipped Micaela Belen Maiz and Larissa Wieser, 6-4 in the second spot. That set the stage for an exciting finish at No. 3 doubles as Sierra Donaldson and Hayden Smith dropped a nailbiter with Julia Speiser and Summer Reeves, 6-7 (5-7).

"Doubles cost us today. We were in and out with our energy and focus. If we want to do anything as a team, we've got to show up at the beginning, not in patches when we want to," lamented head coach Patric Hynes.

Belen Maiz rolled to a win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 over Ana Carla Resende.  "That was a great win for Mica in singles, she has been battling hard and I'm happy that she got the win today," said Hynes.

Price turned away Ujdur at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2 to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage. Kirr tied things up at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 7-5 straight set victory over Violetta Khisamova. The Eagles would clinch the match with victories at No. 5 and No. 4. Forrest took down Dana Moreno, 6-0, 6-2 and Reeves defeated Donaldson, 6-2, 6-3. Reigning GSC Freshman of the Week Smith won at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2, 1-0 (10-0).

The Lady Flames fall to 2-2 on the year while Carson-Newman improves to 3-1."We've got a little while before our next match, we will keep finding solutions and keep getting better," concluded Hynes.

Lee will have the weekend off to rest up before getting back on the court on Friday, Mar. 5 at West Georgia at 2 p.m.
