Lady Flames Tennis Wins 5-2 At West Georgia


CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Lee University women's tennis team ended its two-match losing streak with a 5-2 win at West Georgia Friday afternoon.

The Lady Flames (3-2, 1-1 GSC) swept the doubles competition to gain an early 1-0 lead. Carley Sickinger and Sierra Donaldson beat Kennedy Lewis and Elle Jones 6-1. Lisa Kirr and Matina Ujdur were 6-2 winners over Camille Portalier and Melinda Chrun at No. 1 doubles. Larissa Wieser and Hayden Smith completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over Perrine Blachon and Hayden Rainwater.

Ujdur beat Lewis 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Kirr took down Chrun 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to extend Lee's advantage to 3-0. Smith posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Rainwater at No. 6 singles to clinch the team victory.

Donaldson won her opening set 6-3 against Blachon at No 5 singles. Blachon forced a third set with a 6-1 margin. Donaldson outlasted Blachon 11-9 in the third set to claim the win.

West Georgia (2-3, 0-3 GSC) avoided the shutout with wins in the final two matches. Jones overcame a first-set loss to Sickinger with 7-5 and 10-5 scores over the next two sets to win at No. 4 singles. Portalier won the first and third sets against Micaela Belen Maiz to supply the final team score.

"Wins are never easy in the GSC, we'll come back home and get ready for Sunday," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. 

The Lady Flames are scheduled to battle Lincoln Memorial University Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The non-conference match will be contested at the DeVos Tennis Center.
