Brittney White scored seven goals and Dariana Blanton added four to help the Lee women's lacrosse team roll to a dominating 18-2 victory over Lincoln Memorial at the Lee Multi-Sport Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Flames wasted little time getting things going in their first official game on their brand new turf field. Freshman Sara-Kate Dixon scored her first collegiate goal and the first goal at the Multi-Sport Complex with just 2:40 seconds into the contest. Dixon finished with three goals.
Lincoln Memorial would tie it up at 1-1 on a goal by Sierra Landsman just 37 seconds later but after that it was all Lady Flames has they went on an 11-0 run started by White's first of seven goals.
Lee would shutout the Railsplitters in the second half as Kaleigh Bernard played 52:04 in goal and had five saves to earn the victory. Caleigh Smith, last week's GSC Defensive Player of the Week, worked the final 7:56 and did not allow a goal.
"The offense was clicking in the first half, both goalies played well but we really did a great job maintain possession in the first half to extend the lead," said Lee head coach Derrel Martin. "The first two games this season we knew would be tough, but I think we have learned a lot early on here and we are starting to gel. We are young but we are growing with each game and practice and learning to play together as a team and I'm excited for where we are headed."
Shayna Ryan added three goals and one assist and Giselle Gonzalez also found the back of the net. Kaylyn Dillon and Blanton dished off three assists each while Avery Schenk was credited with two.
Lee outshot LMU 28-12 and placed 25 shots on mark. The Lady Flames dominated the draw control holding a 14-7 advantage. Each club committed 18 turnovers.
The win moves the Lady Flames even on the young season at 2-2. The Railsplitters were playing their first match of the spring.
Lee was scheduled to host Tusculum on Wednesday evening but due to COVID-19 Protocols the game has been postponed. The Lady Flames will take a week off now before traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to battle Converse College on Monday, Mar. 8 at 5 p.m.
