No. 13 Flames Bounce Back with 65-52 Win over Hawks

ROME, Ga. – The No. 13 Lee men's basketball team bounced back on Saturday to salvage a weekend series split at Shorter with a 65-52 win over the Hawks on Saturday afternoon.

Beyuan Hendricks celebrated his birthday in style with a game-high 21 points, connecting on four triples and 7 of 14 from the field. Quay Kennedy added 11 and seven rebounds and Michael McGuirk pitched in 10 points.

"I'm proud of how our guys responded today. We were fighting to find it in the first 20 minutes, but things started to come together early in the second half," said Lee head coach Bubba Smith.

Jalen Page helped give Lee some momentum going into halftime as he nailed a triple with 39 seconds left to give the Flames a 32-26 halftime advantage. After blowing a 12-point lead on Friday night the Flames made sure history didn't repeat itself as they never let Shorter closer than seven and expanded the lead up to 18 on a Makhi McGuire 3-ball with 3:51.

The Lee defense bounced backed on Saturday to limit the Hawks to just 36.5 percent shooting for the game after allowing 48 second half points in Friday's loss. The Flames' perimeter defense was especially tenacious forcing Shorter into just 3 of 20 (15 percent) from beyond the arc.

"I thought our guys were really unselfish and we got back to our defensive principles and began effecting shots. These quick games can go either way. The losses can hang over your head or you can respond. I thought we responded well today," said Smith.

The win moves the Flames to 9-2 on the season while Shorter falls to 3-9. Lee holds a 36-12 all-time record against the Hawks and have now won 8 of the last 9 games.

The Flames will return home next weekend as they host West Georgia on Friday and Saturday. Earlier this season the Flames went on the road to sweep the Wolves, 81-67 and 60-59.
