Coach Marty Rowe will take his Lee women (12-6) to Livingston, Alabama and the campus of the University of West Alabama to face the Tigers (10-7) on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. The Gulf South Conference divided the league into East and West divisions this season and all teams played clubs within their division. Four teams from the East and four from West make-up the tournament field.
The Lady Flames placed third in the East behind Valdosta State and Montevallo. The Tigers were second in the West, trailing No. 1 Union University. A win at West Alabama would advance the Lady Flames into the semifinal round on Friday against No. 1 from the East (Valdosta State) or No. 4 from the West (Delta State). The GSC championship is scheduled for Sunday, March 7 at a neutral site yet to be determined.
"We're excited to get the opportunity to play in the post season again," commented Lee head coach Marty Rowe before his team departed for the long road trip on Monday. "Going to West Alabama is going to be a challenge but it's that time of year when nothing is easy."
He added, "West Alabama is fundamentally sound on both ends of the court and have a couple of extremely gifted players in junior (Bria) Dent and senior (Tazsa) Hammett-Garrett. Coach (Rusty) Cram is a really good coach, so they'll be ready for us and we'll need to play awfully well."
"I'm really proud of this team for continuing to battle and improve all season long. Now I am looking forward to watching us take the next step into postseason basketball," Rowe concluded.
