The Lee University women's tennis team evened its conference record with a 7-0 shutout over Shorter University Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.
The Lady Flames (5-3, 2-2 GSC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the visiting Lady Hawks (2-5, 0-5 GSC) following doubles competition. Carley Sickinger and Sierra Donaldson claimed a 6-2 win over Emma Novis and Alana Mulkey at the third position. Micaela Belen Maiz and Larissa Wieser beat Maria Murtinez and Andrea Medel by the same 6-2 margin at No. 2 doubles. Matina Ujdur and Lisa Kirr trailed Isabel Nikolaeva and Amelie Fryer 4-3, but their match was left unfinished after the doubles point was secured by Lee.
Ujdur beat Medel 6-4, 6-1 to win the first singles point at the third position. Kirr was a 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles against Murtinez. Belen Maiz clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-0 defeat of Nikolaeva.
Donaldson blanked Mary Ella Owen 6-0 and 6-0 to continue the Lee momentum. Sickinger beat Mulkey 6-2 and 6-1, while Dana Moreno defeated Novis 6-0, 6-4 to complete the shutout win.
The Lady Flames return to action on Sunday against West Alabama. The GSC match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
