The Lee University women's tennis team lost 7-0 to No. 16 West Alabama Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center in a Gulf South Conference matchup. The Lady Flames fell to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
West Alabama (7-2, 4-0 GSC) gained the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. Valeria Arevalo and Morgan Bishop beat Carley Sickinger and Sierra Donaldson 6-3. Thea Yang and Haina Franco won 6-3 against Micaela Belen Maiz and Larissa Wieser. Matina Ujdur and Lisa Kirr trailed Sarah Manseri and Heden Ly 5-3 when the No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished.
Kirr lost 6-2, 6-1 to 33
rd-ranked Manseri at No. 1 singles. Ly posted matching 6-4 scores to defeat Ujdur. Franco clinched the team victory for UWA at the second position. Belen Maiz won the opening set 6-4 before Franco claimed the next two sets 6-1 and 6-1.
Yang defeated Sickinger 6-2, 6-2 and Arevao beat Donaldson 6-1, 6-1. Hardija Vidnere handed Hayden Smith a 6-3, 6-1 loss to round out the team scoring.
The Lady Flames return to action Sunday, March 28, against Mississippi College. The GSC match is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT in Clinton, Miss.
