Ormsby's Homer Completes Lee Sweep of Falcons

The Lee softball team completed a series sweep of Montevallo in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon from Butler Field as the Lady Flames overcame deficits of 5-0 and 8-2 to win on 9-8 on a walk off home run from Annalyn Ormsby.

Trailing 5-0 the Lady Flames got going in the third inning on a two-run triple to center from Laney Harris. The rally was short-lived however as the Falcons rallied right back with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth by Sierra Easterwood.

Trailing 8-2 the comeback was on as once again it was Harris providing a spark with her second triple of the game, a bases loaded three-bagger to right center. The talented freshman from Cleveland finished with five RBI. Ormsby followed with a double to left center to score Harris and cut the deficit to 8-6. Abby McKinney would complete the six-run fifth with a two-run homer to left center to tie things up at eight all.

Gracie Leslie (2-3) kept the Lady Flames in the contest with three scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory. Leslie danced around trouble in the sixth as she induced a strikeout and a lineout with a runner on the third to keep the game tie.

Ormsby would send the home crowd home happy as she drilled a two-out home run to left field to complete the series sweep of the Falcons.

"Today we showed some toughness. In the conference you have to fight for the 3rd game. It's always a battle. We were able to come back against a 6-run deficit after cutting it to 5-2. We had to dig in and make something happen," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "We were making it a bullpen game and hoping to get through their lineup with a few pitchers. Gracie really stepped up and gave us a chance to win. That's all we can ask for and she did that today. Our lineup is as strong as it has been in a long time. I like this team."

Kinsley Adams doubled, singled twice and scored two runs for Montevallo. Mychael McMillian started in the circle for Falcons and went 4.1 innings allowing eight runs on 10 hits. Kaylee Hawkins (2-6) suffered the loss as she surrendered Ormsby's homer in the seventh.

The Lady Flames pull to an even 9-9 on the year and are now 7-5 in the GSC with their second GSC Series sweep of the season. The Falcons fall to 10-13 on the year and 5-9 in league play.

Lee will prepare to welcome the nation's No. 1 team, North Georgia to Butler Field for a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 2 p.m.
