CLINTON, Miss. – The Lee volleyball saw its Gulf South Conference season come to an end with a 3-0 loss at Mississippi College in the quarterfinals of the Spring Championship Playoffs on Saturday afternoon.
Emma Flowers led the Lady Flames with seven kills. Hannah Upton added five slams while Abby Stroh also had five kills to go along with three aces.
Sloane FitzHenry led the way for the Choctaws with 12 kills and Jamie Boros tallied 10. Kendall Platt fired home eight kills, four aces and eight digs. As a team Mississippi College hit at a .281 clip.
The Choctaws jumped out early with a dominating 25-14 win set one. The Lady Flames held a 19-18 advantage in set two after an Allie Whittinghill kill before Mississippi College rattled off seven straight points to take set two, 25-19.
In the third and final set the Lady Flames jumped out to a 4-1 lead and tied things up at 18-18 off an Abby Stroh slam before once again the Choctaws closed strong and completed the sweep with seven unanswered points for a 25-18 victory.
"I was disappointed in how we executed today. I felt like we had really prepared the team for how MC played, but in the end if you don't take care of your side of the net you can't win," said Lee head coach Andrea Hudson. "We had leads in all three sets and couldn't maintain it. They are a good team and should perform well in their next games."
The Lady Flames (3-5, 2-4) GSC Spring Championship Season is completed but the club will play several matches in Dallas, Texas in April as a part of a NCAA D2 Round Robin Tournament. Mississippi College (7-1, 3-1) advances to the semifinals against Montevallo on Wednesday.
The final home match of the Hudson era will be on April 7 at 7 p.m. against Alabama Huntsville inside Walker Arena.
