Track & Field Sets Six Lee Records At Raleigh Relays And Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays

Met Two Automatic And Three Provisional Marks

RALEIGH RELAYS RESULTS | 2021 AL SCHMIDT BULLDOG RELAYS RESULTS

RALEIGH, N.C./STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Lee University track & field teams competed at the Raleigh Relays and the 2021 Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays this past weekend. The two teams combined for six new Lee records, two automatic qualifiers and three provisional marks.

At the Raleigh Relays, Celine Ritter set a Lee record and met the automatic qualifier in the 5000-meter run. Her 11th-place time of 15:58.77 was nearly a minute better than the previous Lee record of 16:49.7 set by Chloe Flora at the 49er Classic on March 15, 2019. The time needed for an auto qualifier is 16:10.04.

Olivia McLain joined Ritter in the 5000. She crossed the finish line at 17:28.17 for 66th.

Toni Moore completed the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:36.25 to finish 18th. Her time met the provisional mark of 10:59.70.

Caleb Eagleson competed in the 10000-meter run. He posted a time of 30:17.50 to finish 31st and improve his Lee record time of 31:01.40 that he ran at the 2018 GSC Championships. He also came in under the provisional time of 30:47.12.

Christian Noble and Thomas Kelton finished in the top 16 of the 3000-meter steeplechase. Noble won the race by over 12 seconds at 8:39.86. William Daly of Notre Dame was second at 8:52.44. Noble knocked 15 seconds off his previous Lee record time (8:55.03) he set at the Georgia Tech Invitational two years ago and was well under the 8:51.96 automatic qualifying time. Kelton placed 16th at 9:07.41 and was six seconds under the provisional qualifying time (9:13.76).

At the 2021 Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays that were held on the campus of Mississippi State University, Wynand Du Toit won the 400-meter hurdles after crossing the finish line in 51.41 seconds. That beat the Lee standard of 53.80 held by Jeremiah McCain. Du Toit's time met the provisional time of 53.34 and just missed the automatic (51.34). McCain finished ninth (56.02) and Cameron Stine was 12th (56.83).

McCain improved his 110-meter hurdles record to 14.67 seconds to finish seventh. His previous mark of 14.97 was set at the 2019 GSC Championships. Stine finished ninth (15.37).

Hannah Wright broke Brooke Long's 100-meter hurdles record of 15.39 seconds with a 16th-place time of 14.84 seconds. Long placed 18th (15.18) and Liezl Theron (15.33) was 19th.

Kristen Blevins, Baylie Murphy and Jaila Whitaker ran the 100-meter dash. Blevins (12.08) finished 13th, Murphy (12.46) was 23rd and Whitaker (12.61) was 29th. In the 200-meter dash, Blevins placed 17th (24.66), Whitaker was 38th (25.95) and Murphy finished 46th (26.20).

The 4x100 team of Whitaker, Murphy, Kyleeyah Whitehead and Blevins finished third with a combined time of 47.07.

Mikayla Beeler crossed the finish line of the 400-meter dash in 16th (57.90) with Carissa Hall right behind in 17th (57.95).

Liza Kellerman's 800-meter time of 2:18.90 put her in eighth, while Becca Umbarger finished 23rd (2:27.94). Umbarger completed the 1500-meter run in 4:53.45 to place 25th. Danielle Horter finished fourth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:47.09.

Theron, Wright and Long were Lee's representatives in the 400-meter hurdles. Theron was eighth (1:03.74). Wright (1:05.39) and Long (1:06.17) were 13th and 14th, respectively.

Hall finished 28th in the long jump with a mark of 4.66 meters. She placed 12th with a triple jump of 11.23 meters.

Faith Lewis and Sophie Frederick competed in the shot put. Lewis placed 12th with a throw of 11.55 meters and Frederick was 20th after a mark of 10.20 meters. In the discus throw, Lewis' throw of 36.35 meters put her in 15th. Frederick was 25th with a throw of 30.03 meters. Deborah Rubin placed eighth with a hammer throw of 43.78 meters, while Lewis was 20th (32.14 meters). Lewis added an eighth-place finish with a javelin throw of 32.49 meters.

Siphosethu Boya was finished 13th (21.41) in the 200 and ninth (48.14) in the 400. Caleb Campbell placed seventh (48.08) and McCain was 40th (52.24) in the 400.

In the 800-meter run, Titus Lagat finished third at 1:52.71. Caleb Guthery was 20th with a time of 1:58.48.

Three Flames took on the 5000-meter run. Will Stone's time of 14:44.85 was fourth-best overall. Silas Eckenroad was seventh (14:52.17) and Adan Rodriguez stopped the clock at 15:16.30 (11th).

Stine tied for ninth in the high jump with a successful clearance of 1.84 meters. Daniel Surman was fourth in the pole vault with a recorded height of 4.70 meters. Samuel Duarte threw the javelin 45.25 meters to finish 12th.

The Flames and Lady Flames are scheduled to return to action the weekend of April 9-10 for the Flames Invitational at Lee's Multi-Sport Complex.
