Former All-American Almeida Returns to Lee as Golf Assistant Coach

Coach Maupin and new assistant and former all-american, Geandra Almeida.
Genadra Almeida is heading back home. The former All-American player for the Lee women's golf program will return to be the assistant coach for Director of Golf, John Maupin.

"I'm so excited to be back and continue to build upon the historic success of the golf program. Lee University has always had a very special place in my heart, it truly feels like I'm returning home. My college career started here, and I only have great memories of that time. I'm so grateful for this amazing opportunity and I can't thank Coach Maupin and Athletic Director Larry Carpenter enough for bringing me back," said Almeida.

Almeida comes back to Lee after serving as the Head Women's Golf Coach at Bethel University (Ind.). Almeida's ladies were ranked No. 12 in the final NAIA National Poll last season.

"First, I just want to thank Jessica Shepley for her service to our program over the past year.  She did an excellent job of helping lead our teams and will always be a part of the Lee Golf family," noted Maupin.

"I am so excited to welcome Geandra back to the Lee University family, she is one of our own and that makes it special.  As a player she helped lay the foundation for our women's golf program, and was one of our very first All-American's," said Maupin. "Geandra has experience as a very accomplished player, an assistant coach, and a head coach, so there is no question that she will be a strong asset for our team.  Geandra is a natural leader, and she's one of the great competitors that I've been around.  More than anything though, she truly understands what coaching is all about, and our players will benefit from that.  Geandra and her family (Husband-Steve, Daugher-Nikki, Son-Benji) will be valuable members to Lee University and the Cleveland community as a whole.  I am looking forward to working with Geandra to serve and develop our players, and to continue competing for Championships at the highest level!"

The Lady Flames will open the 2021 Fall Season up in Indianapolis, Ind. for the UINDY Fall Invitational. The unique layout features several holes that are located inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
