Fifth set tiebreakers have been kind to the Lee volleyball team this season and that streak continued on Tuesday night inside Walker Arena as the Lady Flames outlasted Young Harris in five in a non-conference clash.
The Lady Flames held a tight 5-4 lead before going on an 8-0 run to put the game away. Lee would take the match with a 15-8 win in the fifth.
"I think we did a good job of keeping our composure even when things weren't going our way in the middle sets," said Interim Head Coach Silvia Beazuile. "This team has been good in five-set matches and we practice all the time games to 15 and stress the urgency in those short set situations. I thought we responded well and can learn from some our mistakes that let it get to a fifth set."
Lee jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of 25-19 victories. Young Harris bounced back in set three with a 25-19 victory of there own before surviving a late run by the Lady Flames to win set four, 25-22.
Abby Stroh led the way with a match-high 15 slams and 15 digs. Macy Petty got off to a fast start with five kills in set one and finished with 13. Hannah Upton continued her solid play of late with seven slams. Kamryn Halpin keyed runs with steady serving, three aces and 12 digs. Ashton Middleton set the offense in motion with 26 assists while Clarissa Soza rotated in for 18 assists and three aces.
Scottie Cook was dominate at the net with a season-high eight blocks. Grace Mazzocca added four and Petty posted three. Sophia Lippert came off the bench and also provided a lift on the right side with six kills on a .333 attack percentage.
"We have three really good right-side hitters and they all stepped up tonight," added Beauzile. "Macy and Allie (Whittinghill) got us off to a good start and Sophia provided us a spark in the later sets when we needed a spark."
Sophie Bearden and Shelby Mullins posted 10 kills each. Kallee McKinney had four of the Mountain Lions 17 aces and 10 digs. Mullins added five blocks and Alexy Boydstone registered 21 assists.
