Lady Flames Drop Two Road GSC Games

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University volleyball team dropped both Gulf South Conference games this weekend. On Friday, October 28, the Lady Flames lost to Shorter University in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-11). They then lost on Saturday, October 29, to the University of Montevallo in straight sets (25-9, 25-16, 25-14). The two losses drop them to 7-23 overall and 4-10 in GSC play.
 
On Friday night, both Lee and Shorter battled hard for the first part of the first set and were tied at 8-8. But then Shorter went on a couple of runs and pulled away for the win. In the second set, it was again tied at 8-8 but the Lady Flames could not keep up with the Lady Hawks.
 
In set three, Shorter jumped out to 8-1 lead and never looked back as the they led by as many as 12 in the final set to win the match. Lee had 12 service errors in the loss as well as 15 attack errors. Allie Whittinghill had seven kills and Ashton Middleton had seven assists to lead the Lady Flames. Kamryn Halpin had six digs as well.
 
On Saturday, Montevallo dominated the first set. It was tied at 6-6 before UM went on a 19-3 run to end the first set. The Lady Flames had eight attack errors in the first set. The second set didn't start much better as the Falcons jumped out to a 8-2 lead early. Lee tried to make it closer but couldn't as UM won 25-16.
 
In the third and final set, Montevallo led it wire-to-wire to win the set and match. Lee had 17 attack errors and four service errors in the loss. Abby Stroh had eight kills in the match while Halpin had 11 digs.
 
The Lady Flames will return home for the final two games of the regular season as they will host Christian Brothers on Thursday, November 3 at 7 PM at Walker Arena.
