CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University volleyball team dropped the final match of the season on Friday night to the Union University Lady Bulldogs by a final score of
3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17).
It was the annual Volley For a Cure Game as the Lady Flames partnered with the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation to these benefits go into creating scholarships for families who have been touched by breast cancer. The Lady Flames also recognized three seniors before the game began. Hannah Upton, Abby Stroh, and Scottie Cook were the three senior Lady Flames honored.
In set one, the Lady Flames jumped out to an early 9-4 lead thanks to a couple of kills from Abby Stroh. Union slowly started to chip away at the lead and tied the game at 14-14. Alyssa Tatsch led the charge for Union as she had five kills in the set. The Lady Bulldogs pulled away to win 25-17.
Union came out quickly and jumped to a 6-1 lead forcing a timeout from the Lady Flames. Sophia Lippert had three kills to close the gap back down to 21-17. Hannah Upton added six digs in the second set but the Lady Flames could not over come the deficit and lost the set 25-19.
In the third set the two teams traded points back and forth until Union led 8-7. Then the Lady Bulldogs went on a 6-2 run to take a 14-9 lead and force a timeout from Lee. The Lady Flames then answered with their own run and cut the deficit to 16-14. Lee couldn't get any closer and dropped the third set 25-17.
Interim Head Coach Silvia Beauzile was very appreciative of this senior class. "This senior class mean a lot to the program. They have been true leaders both on and off the court."
The Lady Flames ended the season with a 8-24 overall record and a 5-11 record in GSC play.
