Lady Flames Return From Break With Impressive Win

The Lee women's basketball team returned from the Christmas break in top form on Friday afternoon by posting an impressive 90-53 victory over Johnson University inside Walker Arena. The win improved the Lady Flames' record to 11-2. They will take a 9-0 Gulf South Conference record into Monday's contest against visiting West Georgia (6 p.m.). 

"Overall, we did a good job of playing under control and staying disciplined offensively and defensively. We got what we wanted out of this game, getting a chance to play before getting back into conference play is huge," said a pleased Lee Coach Marty Rowe. 

Morgan Carbaugh scored a career high 19 points to pace the Lee victory. She made 7-of-12 shots from the field and also drilled three 3-pointers while adding a couple of blocks and a pair of steals. Haley Schubert joined in with 14 points and hit 6-of-10 shots including a pair of treys. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished off six assists. Mallory Hampton contributed 12 points and made 3-of-4 triples. She collected nine assists. Macy Woodworth and Haylee Johnson had eight points apiece. Johnson, Bailey Burgess and Baylee Delbridge each collected two 3-pointers.  

The Lady Flames made 35-of-71 shots from the field (49%). Overall, they attempted 36 3-pointers and made 15 (42%). They were awarded seven freebies and made five. Lee outrebounded the visitors 36-35 but dished off 29 key assists to just 11 turnovers. On the other hand, the Royals had 27 floor mistakes to only seven assists.  
The Lee defense held the visitors to 41% shooting. The Royals attempted 24 triples and hit just six. They had six charity attempts and made three. Jordan Helfer, playing in her first game of the year for Johnson, was the game's leading scorer with 22 points. She made 9-of-19 shots from the field and 2-of-6 3-point attempts. Tori Teesateskie followed with 10 points. Helfer and Josie Harbin paced the Royals in rebounding with four apiece.
