Lady Flames Defeat AUM, Take Over 1st Place in GSC

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-The Lee women's basketball team outscored visiting Auburn Montgomery 57-35 in the second and third quarters and improved to 6-0 in Gulf South Conference play and 7-2 overall with a convincing 92-60 victory on Friday evening inside Walker Arena. With the win, the Lady Flames took over sole possession of first place in the conference when Union was handed its first loss at West Florida.

Haley Schubert paced the balanced Lee scoring with 17 points. She made 7-of-15 shots and had four rebounds to go along with four steals and three assists. Mia Hurst came off the bench and scored a career high 16 points. She canned 3-of-4 triples and was 4-of-6 overall shooting.

Morgan Carbaugh warmed up in the second half and made four straight 3-pointers and finished the contest with 12 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Macy Woodworth gave the Lady Flames 24 minutes of solid play and totaled 11 points and a team-leading five rebounds as the Lady Flames out-boarded the visitors 37-32. Hannah Garrett rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 markers. She also pulled down four rebounds. Mallory Hampton, who was saddled with foul problems, still managed nine points and dished off seven assists.

"Good job of our team playing with purpose and urgency tonight," noted Coach Marty Rowe after the victory. "AUM poses a lot of problems in transition, and I thought we did a pretty good job of limiting those opportunities. We need to continue to approach each game with the same sense of improvement and just working to get better."

After a short break, Lee will travel to Rome, Ga. on Sunday and face Shorter University in another GSC game scheduled for a 2 p.m. opening tip.

All totaled, 12 Lady Flames played, and all scored. "We got great production from several people tonight and that's obviously good for us moving forward," concluded Rowe.

Lee shot a solid 51% from the field (32-of-63) and made 45% from beyond the arc (14-of-31). The Lady Flames marched to the charity stripe 15 times and converted 14. The defense held the Warhawks to 35% shooting (19-of-55) and 32% from long range (8-of-25). AUM struggled from the free-throw stripe, canning just 14-of-22.

Kamya Hollingshed nailed four triples in the third quarter and was the only Warhawk in double figures with 12 points. Allasha Dudley added nine points while Keeley Tini led the rebounding with seven.
