Men's Tennis Blanks Spring Hill 7-0

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lee University men's tennis team rebounded from Saturday's 6-1 loss at No. 6 West Florida with a 7-0 shutout of Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Flames improved to 1-1, while the Badgers dropped to 0-2.

Diego Garcia and Jordi Dasi doubled-up Paul-Philipp Kern and Lezan Koyuncu 6-3 to win at No. 2 doubles. Drew Johnston and Wihan Van Der Merwe beat Fergus O'Rourke and Sebastien Torres by the same margin to secure the doubles point. Bruno Medeiros and Nico Rodriguez recorded a 7-1 tiebreaker to finish the sweep over Ondrej Hlavon and Charles Wallace 7-6.

Garcia posted a pair of 6-1 set scores to take down Wallace at No. 3 singles. Dasi outlasted Hlavon 6-4 in their first set before completing the straight-set victory with a 6-0 mark in the second set.

Johnston clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Rafael Lima at No. 5 singles. Medeiros used a 7-3 tiebreaker to win his second set against Kern to extend the Lee margin to 5-0.

Ramirez went to three sets for the second consecutive day. He won the first set against O'Rourke 6-2 before dropping the second 6-3. Ramirez responded with a 6-0 score in the third set to claim the win at No. 1 singles.

Denis Muratovic completed the shutout with a three-set come-from-behind win over Jakob Graevinghoff.  Graevinghoff won the opening set 6-4 and Muratovic forced a third set with a 6-3 second-set score. Muratovic completed comeback with a 10-5 super set.

"We faced several tough moments today and the guys came through," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes. "This match was good for us." 

The Flames are scheduled to take on King University this coming Saturday. The non-conference meeting will be Lee's home opener. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the DeVos Tennis Center.
