Charlotte, N.C. – The No. 3 Queens University Royals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in handing the Lee women's lacrosse team a 24-8 defeat on Thursday evening.
The Royals outscored the Lady Flames 12-4 in each half to move to 2-0 on the year. The loss drops the Lee to 1-2.
Brittney White provided a bright spot for the Lady Flames as she recorded six draw controls to become the Gulf South Conference's all-time leader in draw controls with 220. White also added a pair of goals in the match.
Dariana Blanton led the offense with three goals and is the team-leader on the year with 11 goals through three games. Caleigh Kenna and Megan Trout also found the back of the net and Jenna Urbon completed the scoring as she connected right at the buzzer for the Lady Flames.
Kaleigh Bernard started in goal for the Lady Flames and worked the first period. She allowed five goals and recorded one save. Caleigh Smith went the rest of the 45 and had nine saves while allowing 19 scores.
Queens proved to be a very talented and aggressive team tonight and the administration of the contest favored their aggressive style of play. We hurried some passes during our clears, and they capitalized on our mistakes," said Lee head coach Derrel Martin. "We fought hard for each possession tonight and it is good to see that we continue to strive and learn as a young team. Tonight's game showed us the standard of play that we must achieve to compete nationally, and we will be working in that direction. Caleigh Smith was once again acrobatic in the goal and ended up with nine saves."
Caroline Kramer earned the win in goal for the Royals. She posted five saves while allowing the eight goals. Rebecca Kinsley led the offensive attack with a game-high six goals and a pair of assists. Shannon Kingston followed with four goals and two assists.
The road doesn't get an easier for the Lady Flames as they will stay in the Queen City to battle No. 17 Mount Olive on Sunday at noon.
