Lady Flames Win Third Consecutive GSC Indoor Championship

Celine Ritter claimed three first-place finishes on her way to being named the Most Outstanding Track Performer.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lee University women's track & field team had a member win 11 of the 17 events on its way to winning a third-consecutive Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship. The Lady Flames accumulated 260.5 points to finish 137 points ahead of second place Mississippi College (123.5).

Following the meet, Celine Ritter was named Most Outstanding Track Performer, while Aria Hawkins earned Most Outstanding Freshman Performer.

Ritter began the final day of competition with a first-place finish in the mile run. She completed the circuit at 4:45.72 to set the GSC Championship and Lee records. Toni Moore was right behind in second with a time of 4:56,08. Hawkins was fourth (5:00.63), Lily Hare finished fifth (5:02.83) and Elizabeth Beckham placed 13th (5:29.90).

Ritter added another event championship in the 800-meter run. She finished the race at 2:13.89 to win by over two seconds. Liza Kellerman (2:16.50), Hawkins (2:18.08) and Hare (2:18.96) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Beckham recorded a time of 5:29.90 to finish 13th.

In the 3000-meter run, the Lady Flames claimed four of the five top finishes, including the top three. Ritter was first with a time of 10:01.59, Moore was second (10:05.97) and Danielle Horter (10:14.12) placed third. Olivia McLain completed the race in fifth (10:23.93), while Katie Krueger was 11th across the line at 10:43.04.

Mikayla Beeler won the 400-meter run with a time of 56.95 seconds. Janay Ryan (57.95) was fifth and Carissa Hall (58.55) finished seventh. Madlyn Mayo was 13th with a time of 1:05.77.

Hannah Wright, Brooke Long and Liezl Theron competed in the 60-meter hurdles. Wright placed second with Lee record time of 8.63 seconds. Long was fourth (9.16) and Theron was sixth (9.34).

Another GSC Championship and Lee record fell in the 60-meter dash. Kristen Blevins improved upon her own record with a 7.55 mark in the final. Kyleeyah Whitehead and Baylie Murphy completed the Lee sweep of the podium positions. Whitehead was second (7.69) and Murphy finished third (7.79).

Blevins continued her assault on the Lee record book in the 200-meter dash with a first-place finish of 24.62 seconds. Wright's time of 24.96 was good for third and Hall placed sixth (26.07).

Theron cleared 1.63 meters to win the high jump. Devon Jackett tied for fifth with a height of 1.50 meters. Sydney White cleared 1.45 meters for ninth. In the triple jump, Hall covered 5.27 meters to finish fourth. Long was ninth with a triple jump of 5.19 meters.

Deborah Rubin and Austyn Durham were Lee's representatives in the weight throw. Rubin posted a mark of 16.42 meters for fourth place. Durham finished ninth with a throw of 14.67 meters.

The final event was the 4x400-meter relay. The foursome of Ryan, Blevins, Hall and Beeler set another GSC Championship and Lee record with a first-place time of 3:53.30.

Lee had 23 All-GSC performers with 17 First Team All-GSC honors and six Second Team All-GSC. Ritter, Blevins and Beeler led the way with three First Team All-GSC honors each. Theron collected two First Team awards, while Moore, Hall, Hare, Hawkins, Kellerman and Ryan made First Team in one event a piece. Moore added two Second Team honors. Long, Hall, Wright and Whitehead were Second Team All-GSC in one event each.
