"I thought it was a really complete performance that we've been looking for out of this team," said Lee head coach Derrel Martin. "We did a nice job of playing with energy and focus even when everything didn't go perfectly. We felt like we were trending in this direction and I'm excited to see where this team can go."
Lee held a 29-4 edge in shots and were 5 of 6 in free position shots. The Cavaliers were held to just 6 of 13 in free position looks. The Lady Flames were 15 of 17 in clears while UVA-Wise cleared 9 of 15.
"As a defense we try and be aggressive and anticipate what the offense is going to try and do," said junior defender Jaylee Giffin. "We have a great coaching staff and Coach Mego (Assistant Coach Megan Smith" does a great job of giving us a detailed scouting report so we are ready to go. I think we are all playing with a lot of confidence right now and we are just now starting to play the way we are capable of playing."
Sydney Trask led the Cavaliers with three goals while Ellie Earnshaw had two. Jordan Edwards suffered her first loss in goal. She tallied five saves in the contest.
With the win the Lee improves to 2-3 on the year while Virginia Wise falls to 2-1 on the young season.
The Lady Flames will get a week off before getting back to work on Saturday, Mar. 5 as they welcome regional foe Belmont Abbey to town for a 1 p.m. showdown.
