Box Score The Lee men's basketball team ended the regular season in style with an 84-77 victory over Union on Saturday afternoon inside Walker Arena.
The Flames started fast and never looked back leading from start to finish on the way to their fifth straight win. Michael McGuirk had the hot hand from downtown as he went 4 of 6 from the 3-point line and led the way with 20 points. PJay Smith went 6 of 9 from the field and perfect 3 of 3 from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points.
Quay Kennedy celebrated senior day with 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Fellow senior Jason Landman hit a couple of triples early in the game and finished with eight points, four rebounds and two blocks.
The Bulldogs closed to within six on a couple of occasions, but big shot Beyuan Hendricks nailed two treys to extend the advantage. Hendricks finished with 12 points and dished off six assists.
The Flames shot 50.8 percent from the field and were sizzling from long-range connecting on 11 3-pointers. Lee took care of the basketball and committed just eight turnovers while forcing Union into 12.
Jeremiah Littlepage led the Bulldogs with 20 points and six rebounds. Tyree Boykin added 18 and Boe Nguidjol posted 14 and five.
Kennedy and Landman were honored in a special senior ceremony prior to the game. "These two are really special players. They are unselfish, care about their teammates and do whatever is necessary to get the job done. I'm grateful for all that they have given to our program and the culture they have created," said Lee head coach Bubba Smith. "I think our players sensed early on that this was a game we needed to win for them. Quay had another solid night, and I was really proud of the way Jason came out and gave us instant energy and made some plays to get us going."
The Flames end the regular season at 18-8 and 14-6 in the GSC. Lee was stellar all year long at Walker Arena, going 10-2 on its home court. Union moves to 21-7 and 15-5 in the GSC.
Lee will enter the GSC Championship as the No. 3 seed and host sixth-seeded West Florida on Tuesday in Walker Arena at 8 p.m. The Flames split the regular season series with the Argonauts.
