Balanced Lady Flames Run Winning Streak to 7 Straight

The Lee women's basketball team ran its winning streak to seven straight and has now posted eight straight Gulf South Conference victories. The Lady Flames will take a 17-3 overall record and a 10-2 GSC mark into a Wednesday evening meeting with the University of West Georgia.

Four Lee players scored in double figures as the Lady Flames defeated visiting Auburn Montgomery University 76-67 on Saturday afternoon inside Walker Arena. Haley Schubert led the way with 19 points and five assists. Halle Hughes followed with 16 points and six rebounds. She also converted a pair of key 3-pointers late in the contest to help turn back a Warhawks rally. Hannah Garrett followed with 13 points while Camryn Grant produced a double-double, 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

"I thought we did a lot of things well today and we are happy to get a win after a long week of basketball," said Coach Marty Rowe. "Obviously, we don't like letting a 19-point lead slip away in the second half, but we were able to hang in there and execute down the stretch."

"You have to give Auburn Montgomery a lot of credit," Rowe added. "They had a couple of players really step up in big moments. But honestly, I liked our efforts and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can learn from this game."

The Lady Flames outrebounded the Warhawks 31-23. Addison Smith pitched in with seven points and freshman Anna Muhonen scored four points to go along with four assists. All totaled, Lee had 17 assists compared to 14 turnovers. "That's a stat I would like to see in every game," noted Rowe.

After the Lady Flames built up a 19-point lead with 5:05 remaining in the third quarter, Auburn Montgomery tried to turn the game around behind the outstanding play of Allasha Dudley and Catlin Carter. They trimmed the lead to only five points and Dudley finished the game with 25 points and Carter finished with 23. Dudley also made 5-of-9 3-point attempts and grabbed a team-leading six rebounds.

Lee shot 51% from the field (30-of-59), hit 7-of-20 3-pointers (35%) and converted 9-of-13 free throws. The Warhawks shot 46% from the field, a solid 40% from beyond the arc and helped stay in the game by canning 15-of-17 charity tosses.
