CLINTON, Miss. – The Lee University Softball team claimed the series win with a, 2-0, victory over Mississippi College from the MC Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
"I was pleased with the team's overall performance this weekend on the road. We got a timely two-out hit from Taylor De Adder when we needed it and it was all Nyah Vogel needed," started head coach Emily Russell.
De Adder reached on an error on a sharply hit ball to almost dead center in the top of the fifth which allowed Anna Macha and Breanna Pattton to score and it was all the Lady Flames would need.
Vogel went on to retire eight of the final 10 batters she faced to hold onto the shutout and pick up her eighth win of the season. The Apopka, Florida native went the complete game allowing only five hits while striking out three and giving up a walk on 108 pitches.
"She (Vogel) kept us in the game and got the lead off batter out in every inning except the sixth," Russell said, praising her sophomore in the circle.
De Adder claimed the only Lee hit and had a pair of RBIs.
Avery Sanders went the complete game for the Choctaws allowing only one hit, two unearned runs, three walks, and fanned seven batters while falling to 5-7.
Alexis Laughlin went 2-for-3 to pace the Mississippi College offense.
Lee improves to 13-12 overall and 7-7 in Gulf South Conference play. The hosts dropped to 13-12 on the year and 6-8 in the conference.
"It's always good to win a GSC series and now we have a good week to get ready for a tough UAH team," Coach Russell concluded.
Lee will be back in action next weekend as they take on Alabama Huntsville in a three-game set. Saturday is scheduled for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. with the series finale set for Sunday at one.
