LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lee University women's tennis team lost 7-0 Friday afternoon at No. 9 West Alabama. The Gulf South Conference contest was played at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. The Lady Flames dropped to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while the Tigers improved to 10-4 overall with a 5-0 GSC mark.
Hardija Vidnere and Heden Ly opened the doubles scoring with a 6-0 defeat of Mirjana Ragastovac and Lauren Trammell. The 13
th-ranked doubles team of Almudena Sanz ad Irawan Deewajee beat Ashleigh Simes and Sierra Donaldson 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point. The No. 8 team of Haina Franco and Katia de la Garza were 6-4 winners over Lisa Kirr and Micaela Belen Maiz to complete the doubles sweep.
Franco, ranked No. 12 in singles, defeated Belen Maiz 6-1 and 6-0, while de la Garza beat Kirr 6-4, 6-3 to push the UWA lead to 3-0. No. 49 Sanz upset No. 41 Simes at the top singles position. Sanz won the opening set 6-3 and posted a 7-2 tiebreaker to win the second set 7-6 to clinch the team victory.
Deewajee posted a three-set win over Ragastovac. Ragastovac won the first set 6-4. Deewajee claimed the second set 6-0 and completed the comeback with a 10-4 margin in the superset tiebreaker.
Ly won the No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-2 against Donaldson. Valeria Arevalo tallied matching 6-4 scores to beat Trammell in straight sets.
The Lady Flames return home to face No. 49 Mississippi College on Sunday. The GSC matchup is set for 1 p.m. EDT at the DeVos Tennis Center.
