DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the second straight match the Lee University men's tennis team faced a top-1o opponent with the Flames falling to No. 7 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 5-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The loss moved Lee's record to 6-3, while the Eagles improved to 8-2.
Embry-Riddle claimed five of the six singles matches to secure the team win. The three doubles matches were not played.
Michele Iftimie opened the scoring with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Bruno Medeiros. Juan Ortiz Couder, ranked No. 38, defeated Nico Ramirez 6-3 and 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo held off Wihan Van Der Merwe 6-2, 7-5 to push ERAU's lead to 3-0. Alexis Guedy clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Diego Garcia.
Jordi Dasi ended the Eagles' hopes for a shutout with a three-set win at No. 2 singles against Andres Donayre. Donayre claimed the opening set 6-3. Dasi responded with a 6-4 mark in the second set and completed the come-from-behind win with a 10-8 margin in the third set.
Lukas Schnieder completed the team scoring with a three-set win against Drew Johnston. Schnieder won the first set 6-3 before Johnston forced a third set with a 7-0 tiebreaker score in the second set. Schnieder completed the win at No. 6 singles with a 10-7 superset score.
The Flames will return to Gulf South Conference action on Tuesday, March 13 against Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
