No. 20 Flames Lose Regular Season Finale 5-4 At No. 57 Delta State

GREENVILLE, Miss. – The No. 20 Lee University men's tennis team was edged 4-3 by No. 57 Delta State University Saturday afternoon at Cypress Hills Tennis Club. The Flames complete the regular season with a 10-6 overall record and earned a spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament with a 4-5 conference mark.

Delta State (7-7, 5-3 GSC) grabbed the early advantage with a 6-3 win by Come Bracaval and Hugo Stroppiana at No. 2 doubles against Drew Johnston and Wihan Van Der Merwe. The 37th-ranked doubles team of Nico Ramirez and Bruno Medeiros evened the score with a6-4 defeat of Jordan Hays and Franco Roldan. Emile Le Terrier and Tom Alary beat Diego Garcia and Denis Muratovic 6-4 to secure the doubles point.

Stroppiana opened singles competition with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Garcia at the second position. Ramirez, ranked No. 21, cut the Lee deficit in half with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Le Terrier. Medeiros held off Bracaval 6-4 and 6-4 to even the team score at 2-2. Van Der Merwe continued the Lee win streak with a three-set defeat of Emiliano Elizarraraz at No. 4 singles.

Hays posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Johnston to tie the match at 3-3 with one point yet to be decided. Roldan and Muratovic faced off at No. 6 singles to decide the team winner. Roldan outlasted Muratovic 7-5 to win the first set and held on to win 6-4 in the second set to clinch the team victory.

The Flames will now wait to see what seeding they will receive for the upcoming GSC Tournament which will be held April 28-30 at Lagoon Park and O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Alabama.
