Lady Flames Fall in Regular Season Finale, Prepare for GSC Tournament

No. 18 West Florida scored three runs in the first and never looked back to take the regular season finale from the Lee softball team, 10-2 on Sunday afternoon from Butler Field.

All totaled the Argonauts pounded out 11 hits and four extra base hits. Teala Howard hit a two-run blast in the third inning and Madelyn Vasquez clobbered a solo shot to center in the fourth.

Annie Ormsby provided the offense punch for the Lady Flames as she drilled a two-run homer to right center in the second.

West Florida used four pitchers in the victory. Kelsey Sweatt tossed two innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Jeya Prasad, Katelin Booker, and Montana Young (12-2) each worked a scoreless inning of relief.

Madison Barnett (8-11) started and lasted two innings. She gave up four runs on six hits. Alaina Watson allowed four runs in one inning of relief and Caroline Pattison surrendered two runs in two innings.

The Lady Flames end the regular season at 27-21 and 17-12 in the GSC. West Florida moves to 30-13 and 21-8 in league play. The loss snaped a streak of seven straight GSC Series victories for the Lady Flames.

Lee earns the No. 5 Seed in the GSC Championship and will take on No. 4 seed Alabama Huntsville on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. from Oxford, Ala. With a win the Lady Flames will take on the winner of No. 1 seed Auburn Montgomery and No. 8 seed Union at 7 p.m. A game one loss and the Lady Flames will take on the loser of Auburn Montgomery and Union at 1:30 p.m.
