Lady Flames Historic Season Comes to End in Match Play Quarterfinals

The Lady Flames gather at the 18th green after a program-best finish at the National Championship.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The No. 10 Lee women's golf team saw its historic season come to an end with a 3-1-1 loss to No. 7 Barry University in the NCAA D2 National Championship Quarterfinal Match Play round on Friday morning from the Chattahoochee Golf Club.

Supuschaya  Srinchantamit led things off for the Lady Flames and fired an even par 72 to tie Eve Marie Spain. Carson McKie was knotted up with Giuliana Gomez going to the 16th hole but found trouble off the tee and dropped two strokes. McKie finished with a 79 and Gomez carded a 76.

Emily Felix shot a respectable 4-over 76 but ran into 1-under 71 from Nina Klug to fall by five strokes. Lily Bloodworth and Maria Cowan battled back forth all day and were tied heading to the par 3, 17th. Cowan made birdie while Bloodworth bogeyed to swing the match. Bloodworth finished with an 8-over 80 and Cowan edged her by one stroke with a 79.

In the anchor leg, All-American Alex Naumovski shot a 1-under 71 and took down the NCAA D2 National Player of the Year, Alice Gotbring by four strokes.
The Lady Flames finish the season with the program's best national championship finish and Naumovski was named the program's first All-American First Team selection.

"We started the year saying lets do something that hasn't been done before, which isn't easy because we've been a successful program, but we were able to do that this week. I'm so proud of the way they've played over this last month. I'm a believer this time of year your best players really have to show up for you and Yui (Srinchantamit) and Alex showed up huge for us this week and they were lights out. Alex came out today with her usual great focus and beat Alice by four strokes and she's an incredible player so it really was a special performance out of our leaders this week," said Lee Director of Golf John Maupin. "We hurt because when you get to this point you just want to keep playing but I'm so very proud of everything we accomplished and the history that this group was able to make for our program."

Barry advanced to the semifinals and lost to No. 5 Findlay, 4-1. In the other semifinal No. 3 Limestone defeated No. 4 Anderson, 3-1-1. Findlay and Limestone will meet in the NCAA D2 Women's National Championship Match on Saturday morning.
