BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference announced its major awards for women's outdoor track & field for the 2022 season, as voted on by the league's head coaches, and Lee University claimed each of the four honors.
Celine Ritter was named GSC Track Athlete of the Year, Carissa Hall earned GSC Co-Field Athlete of the Year and Aria Hawkins was selected GSC Freshman of the Year , while head coach Caleb Morgan received GSC Coach of the Year recognition.
Ritter received the league's top track athlete honors for the first time in her career after winning the 1500 and 5000-meter races in record fashion at the 2022 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Hall shared the top field athlete recognition with West Georgia's Brandi Boddi. Hall was named women's Most Outstanding Overall Performer at the 2022 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, after setting records in the long jump and 400-Meter Dash, while also medaling in the Triple Jump and 4x100-Meter Relay.
Hawkins landed top freshman honors after breaking GSC records in the 800 and 1500-meter races, and winning the 800-Meter Run with a new conference mark.
Morgan directed Lee to its fifth-consecutive GSC title as the Lady Flames amassed 256.5 points, second-most in league-history. As a team. Lee recorded 24 podium finishes, including nine event wins, and had 18 all-conference honorees.
