OXFORD, Ala. – The Lee University softball team saw its season come to a close after an, 8-0, loss to Alabama Huntsville in the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference tournament from Choccolocco Park on Saturday afternoon.
Huntsville got the scoring started in the third as Kaylee Vaught hit an RBI double and relinquished the lead. Kiara Akles then singled through the right side and Mackenzie Nutt had an RBI ground out to take a, 3-0, lead.
Lee's pitching then held the Chargers scoreless over the next three innings before they put up a five-spot in the seventh capped off by a Laura Harbin pinch-hit two-run home run.
Layton Murphy went the complete game for UAH, allowing just four hits, and a pair of walks with three strikeouts.
Lawren Hayes paced the Charger offense with a 3-for-3 day.
Ana Macha, Taylor De Adder, Javaria Smith, and Annalyn Ormsby each recorded a hit for the Lady Flames.
Alaina Watson was tagged with the loss pitching the first 2.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits, with a walk. Madison Barnett struck out a batter and allowed four runs on eight hits over four innings. Caroline Pattison pitched the final 0.2 innings allowing a hit and a run.
Huntsville improves to 38-14 on the season and moves on to the championship round of the tournament where they will take on Auburn Montgomery on Sunday afternoon.
Lee finishes 29-23 on the year, earning their best finish in the GSC Tournament in program history.
