Brew Named TBCA DII Coach of Year

FRANKLIN, Tenn.- Lee University Baseball Coach Mark Brew will be in Franklin, Tennessee, on Saturday (Jan. 21) to receive the 2022 Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA) Division II College Baseball Coach of the Year Award.

The announcement released by the TBCA proclaims, "Your contribution to the game of baseball has been outstanding. The TBCA enjoys rewarding those who have excelled in the game of baseball in Tennessee through dedication and hard work." The awards luncheon will be held at the Cool Springs Marriott in Franklin.

After a slow 12-17 start Brew's 2022 team came roaring back to finish the season with a 33-24 record. The remarkable year saw the Flames win their first Gulf South Conference tournament championship and place second in the NCAA DII South Regional staged in Saint Leo, Florida. Lee defeated the host Saint Leo team twice in regional play and lost to a strong Rollins College team that advanced by stopping top-ranked Tampa University.

"Our 2022 season was a great ride. Our team overcame a lot to finish as GSC tournament champions and qualify for our second consecutive NCAA regional," commented the Lee skipper. "Anytime you receive an award as a coach, it is an honor shared with your coaching staff and players. They all had big moments in our success. I am honored to be accepting this award on our program's behalf."

Coach Brew has recorded 643 wins against 264 defeats and begins his 17th year of coaching the Flames on Feb. 4 when Hillsdale College (Michigan) is in town for the four-game weekend series.
