Oliver Lewis-Perkins Sets School Golf Scoring Record as the Flames Win the Copperhead Championship

INNISBROOK, Fla. –Oliver Lewis-Perkins set a school record as the Lee University men's golf team ended the fall portion of the season with a win at the Copperhead Championship hosted by the University of West Florida on Tuesday.

Lewis-Perkins won the individual title at the Copperhead Championship shooting a school record 202 over the three rounds. He started the tournament with a 67 and then followed it up with a 69 in round two and a 66 in round three. Lewis-Perkins won the tournament by seven strokes over Nico Lang from UWF who came in second with a 209.

As a team, Lee shot an 853 (282-282-289) over the three rounds for the two stroke victory. UWF came in second shooting an 855 and last year's NCAA National Runner Up Oklahoma Christian came in third. The Copperhead Championship featured eight teams ranked in the top ten of the Golf Coaches Association of America poll, and 11 teams ranked in the top 25.

Trey Melvin was the second-best finisher for the Flames. He finished tied for 12th shooting a 214 (72-68-74). Noah Ross finished tied for 19th with a 217 (71-70-76). Bennet McNabb was three strokes behind Ross and came in 29th shooting a 220 (72-75-73). George Cordall rounded out the field for the Flames coming in tied for 75th with a 230 (79-75-76).

Coach Evan Spence's Thoughts:

"Thrilled to finish the fall season with a win this week at the deepest field of the year so far! Days like today where you're in the hunt and come on top are why all these guys made the decision to come here to Lee. We have been building towards this for the past several weeks and I think everyone could feel that something like this was coming. We've been telling these guys since the beginning of the season that we have more than enough talent to compete with anyone in the country this season and I think we are finally starting to buy into that and believe that as a group these past several weeks."

"Extremely proud of Ollie this week. He works just as hard as anyone out there and is so capable. It was awesome to see it all come together for him this week and to watch him dominate out there. The funny thing is, he's been playing like this at home all year so far, we've just been trying to figure out the best way to get it to translate into the tournament rounds. It clicked for him in the last round at Doublegate last week, he was able to carry that momentum into this week, and the rest is history."
